Date: 1 February 2011 – 1730
Subject: BCS/IET Annual Turing Lecture Series 2011 (streamed event)
Speaker: Don Knuth
Venue: Ogier House, The Esplanade, St Helier
And now for something completely different …. ‘An Evening with Donald Knuth – All Questions Answered’.
Ogier have very kindly offered the use of their conference room to watch the live stream of the BCS/IET Annual Turing Lecture Series 2011 with Don Knuth. There are a limited number of seats and hence this event is reserved for BCS members only.
The 2011 BCS/IET Turing Lecture will not follow the usual form of a talk followed by a question and answer session. Instead, Don will make a short introduction and then take questions about any subject. He warns in advance that “The audience should be aware that the answers will be my best shot, though those outside the field of The Art of Programming may have somewhat less credibility than a Wikipedia article”.
Time permitting, Don will also reveal the significance of the number 885205232, which some speculate may turn out to be surreal.
Further details about the event can be found on the BCS UK website http://www.bcs.org/category/14335&src=ebcs.
Our speaker is Don Knuth, whois Computer Scientist and Professor Emeritus of the Art of Computer Programming at Stanford University, USA – read more about Don on his Stanford University website page.
